[Since I was a kid, i'v known raspberries were one of my favorite fruits, but i had never questioned their past and the stories that stemmed from them. What really caught my attention were the connections between the scientific classifications and Greek Mythology]
[The European Red Raspberry scientific name & Latin {RUBUS IDAEUS} translates to:
"BRAMBLE BUSHES OF IDA"
[The connections that sparked inspiration for me:]
[Mount Ida was a real historical place near Troy (in modern dayTurkey) where wild raspberries thrived in abundance]
[IDA was a mythical nymph nursemaid to the baby Greek God Zeus, and by attempting to ease his sorrows she went to pick a white raspberry but pricked her finger. Having drawn blood upon the thorny pushes, she stained the berries red with her blood for all eternity]
[How the delicacy of nature can serve as a symbol of the fragile and fleeing time we have as human & how our blood binding connections to that nature, sustain us]
{NEON TEETH POEM}
FOR THE PLEASURE
& FOR THE PAIN
THE STAIN
NEVER UNDONE,
I BLEED RED
